What is Non-Degree Enrollment?

Non-degree enrollment is a flexible way to engage in advanced study without applying to a full degree program. Our online courses allow non-degree students to:

Learn alongside degree-seeking students in fully online classes

Courses follow the same academic standards as our degree programs and are taught by University of Tennessee’s university faculty.

*Credit transfer is determined by the student’s home institution.

*Some courses have prerequisites that must be met before registration. If a prerequisite prevents enrollment, contact the department offering the course. You can find the department under “View Catalog Entry” in the course information.

How to Apply for Non-Degree Courses

Graduate

There’s no separate application round for graduate non-degree students. Start your application and choose:

Non-Degree
You will then be prompted for your program, Select Non-degree (Online)
Select your Entry Term

Graduate Application

Requirements:

Regionally accredited bachelor’s degree from a college or university. Non-U.S. degrees must be equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from the United States and granted by a recognized or accredited foreign institution.

Minimum 2.7 GPA for U.S. degrees / 3.0 GPA for international degrees.

Applicants may be required to submit standardized test scores, or English language certification depending upon their program requirements.

Important: If you plan to enroll as a non-degree student before formally applying for graduate admission at UT, courses completed as a non-degree student will not count toward an intended graduate degree.

Undergraduate

Apply using the Go Vols Application. When you apply directly through that link, the Non-degree round is automatically selected for you — no separate application needed.

Undergraduate Application

Requirements:

Pay the $75 nonrefundable application fee

Provide a high school diploma or equivalency. An earned college degree can be used to fulfill this requirement.
